Entrepreneurship and Innovation Global Insights from 24 Leaders eBook James Barrood

Some of the stories are truly portraits of innovation from unexpected sources, others are rather mundane accountings from the usual suspects. I was shocked to read that Doris Drucker "invents" by putting the cart before the horse! And equally surprised to learn that the founders of Ecko sportwear ran through six million borrowed dollars before finally getting it right using another 1.5 million of another guy's money. I found confirmation here of all my pre-conceived notions: sometimes, the law of attraction works; sometimes, the rich get richer; sometimes, the little guy works his way to the top. These are brief, interesting profiles that will generate ideas for you, I suppose that's what this book is good for. I wanted some ideas and inspiration to spur on my own search for financial independence. Goal partially achieved. Many good descriptions of how to run an inspirational, motivated team.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation Global Insights from 24 Leaders eBook James Barrood Reviews

As someone with a corporate background, and as someone who has always held entrepreneurs in very high regard, I found this book both informative, inspiringand entertaining. For example, Seth Gerszberg of Marc Ecko Enterprises offers a hilarious shaggy-dog story about his experience; Ralph Nader is thought-provoking, as always; and John Crowley story of determination to save his kids is truly inspiring. While I'm not likely to start my own business any time soon, this book greatly increased my understanding of entrepreneurs and what they go through to get their businesses and non profit organizations off the ground. I can't wait to share it with my son.
As an aspiring entrepreneur, this book has provided me with a significant amount of quality insight into the business and lifestyle of being an entrepreneur and an innovator. What I like most about this book is that it profiles a variety of successful entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds and really gives the reader different perspectives on the trials and tribulations of being an innovator. It would be impossible to meet all of these different people in person, yet this book provides a priceless window into their lives and the course of their business ventures. I look forward to referring back to it from time to time for advice and guidance.
A few weeks ago, I received this book as a gift. This collection is an approachable 170 pages, and is an enjoyable read, full of ideas from some of the most creative innovators in the business community today. If you've read books on innovation, they've likely been long and intense dissertations on the topic from a traditional process or strategy angle. While it's necessary to address these issues in order to do the topic justice, "Global Insights" is something different. The book focuses on the personal stories of those leaders with their hands on the pulse of innovation in their respective fields, the lessons they learned, the mistakes that they made and their individual success stories along the way. This book is a no-holds barred realistic look at innovation from those who really live it. It has a personality that will engage anyone who is looking for inspiration as they pursue innovation at a small or large company or nonprofit. I highly recommend it!
As a person who is looking to find a successful path in the business world, a friend and advisor gave me this book. I found it both inspirational and motivational. In this book there are innovative people from every part of our society people of different ages, gender, statuses, and cultural backgrounds. They all started from the bottom and worked their way to success. All of the entrepreneurs in this book showed spirit and determination to succeed with their ideas. These ideas changed their lives and, in many cases, also the lives of other people. This book describes unique stories of successful entrepreneurs which I can only recommend to all future readers who have an interest in entrepreneurship or innovation and how to apply their ideas in their lives and careers, regardless if they work in a corporation, small-business or non-profit, or even setting out to start their own endeavor.
As one who was put in a position at a family business at a fairly young age and asked to run the operation as best as you can, I found this book inspiring and informative. As others have said, this was no longer a job, but a way of life. Becoming self motivated, more optimistic and continuously persistent are traits that I share with some of the best business leaders. The book is an excellent compilation of talks from people who have done great things in their business lives. Despite all I have learned in my many years in business, I have learned even more from this book to take back to my employees and make my business even stronger in this economy. After even the first ten pages you will have new ideas to take back as well.
I found this book to be an excellent source of information on how dedication, creativity and collaboration lead to the creation of successful businesses. As a student and female entrepreneur, I found a great deal of inspiration from the collection as a whole. However, the chapter that spoke most clearly to me was chapter 22, the lecture given by SwitchFlops founder, Lindsay Philips. She founded her business from an idea that came from a high school art project and transformed it into an over $20 million business that continues to grow. I am also in the fashion business and Lindsay's story is just a phenomenal example of the possibilities that actually exist today for any aspiring business owner. Lindsay's story is just one in the collection of vignettes by great entrepreneurs and innovators. I look forward to referring back to it as I pursue my entrepreneurial journey and need guidance and inspiration and I will be recommending it to my friends who are also working on startups.
Some of the stories are truly portraits of innovation from unexpected sources, others are rather mundane accountings from the usual suspects. I was shocked to read that Doris Drucker "invents" by putting the cart before the horse!
